The Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (ASNL) is seeking expressions of interest in serving as a 3-year volunteer on its Board of Directors.

Overview of ASNL
ASNL is the sole provincial organization dedicated to fostering the development of individual, lifelong and community-based supports and services for autistics, those who love them and those who work with them. ASNL is a vital resource as global understanding of autism has significantly evolved and services and programs have grown and strengthened.
Board Seats Available & Criteria
There are five seats available, each with a three-year term. Three of our upcoming available seats have specific representations as noted below:
Must be a parent /caregiver / guardian of an autistic
Self- Advocate- Avalon
Must live on the Avalon Peninsula
Must be an autistic individual who can provide the Board with the perspective of lived experience
Finance
Must be a Chartered Professional Accountant (5 years minimum experience preferred)
Considerations for all Board seats:
ASNL welcomes candidates for all positions who have lived experience and who identify as neurodivergent
Previous experience serving on a Board of Directors is an asset.
Active in the community with a solid knowledge of provincial and regional issues facing autistics
Be willing to commit the required time and effort to fulfill the roles and responsibilities as a member of the Board, including:
Attend regular meetings
Actively contribute to the work of the board committees.
Maintain active linkages with the ASNL community
Demonstrate active promotion of ASNL’s programs and services throughout the region and amongst all stakeholders
Lend support in the area of expertise on an as-needed basis
Keep informed about the concerns of the ASNL community, funders, and partners
Ensure that the goals and objectives of ASNL are fulfilled
Exercise visionary leadership by participating in the establishment of the values and goals, setting strategic directions, completing a strategic plan, setting policies, creating value in the programs and services to the benefit of autistics; supporting the Chief Executive Officer and the ASNL team, including staff and volunteers
Ensure decisions comply with existing policies
Keep confidential information within the boardroom
Comply with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Behaviour.
Actively participate in individual, board, and Chief Executive Officer evaluations
Have the capacity to commit 3-4 hours per month on average for board-related work.
